On July 27th, 2007 Detroit Lions held a special visitors day for season ticket holders to see the Detroit Lions in training. The rain postponed the event for the spectators and training was moved inside. There was not enough room indoors for the 200+ people expected. The Detroit Lions staff would not let this affect the experience that Martel Johnson had been waiting for.
Martel Johnson is an 8 year old burn survivor. He is a Lions fan and aspiring future firefighter.
Dearborn Firefighter’s Burn Drive contacted the Lions administration about Martel’s visit and their response was an immediate “yes!”
Martel and his mother toured the training facility and observed the practice sessions on the indoor field. After practice he was down on the field and met the players and coaches. He was given a football and nearly everyone signed the ball for him.
This was undoubtedly a day to remember for Martel.
The staff and players were gracious hosts and the Dearborn Firefighter’s Burn Drive would like to express their appreciation for helping make this a special day for Martel and his mother.
Like the slogan says: “It’s for the kids”.
Thank you Detroit Lions
